Amalfi Dreaming – 5 days in Sorrento and the Amalfi Coast

We were inspired to travel to the Amalfi Coast because my American cousin and his fiancée, had posted these stunning pictures on Instagram which captured our attention and indeed took our breath away.  Many of our trips prior to this had revolved around friends and family coming to visit us or us visiting them however this trip was one we chose ourselves just for us, a real romantic escape.

A taster of our trip.

Anyone who has visited this exquisite location will understand that it leaves you wanting, longing, yearning….to come back and do more, spend more time.  It really is a magical holiday destination.  Just be prepared that one trip will only whet your appetite!

There’s a great saying – ‘When life hands you lemons, make lemonade.’ Well, on the Amalfi Coast, when life hands you an abundance of lemons, make limoncello, a delicious liqueur.  Or indeed lemon treats such as “delizie al limone” or lemon cake.  As lovers of citrus we embraced the love of the lemon in this region….just brace yourself for its overarching presence and stall holders with ‘Do Not Touch’ signs on their prized lemons.

The Amalfi Coast would have to be one of the most picturesque places on earth. It has cascading colourful buildings and pastel coloured houses built into the rocky, hilly landscape. There are fishing boats floating on the water, local’s washing blowing in the breeze and delightful alfresco style eateries. It is no surprise that it’s been named a UNESCO World Heritage site in 1997.  The Amalfi Coast is located in Campania on the Tyrrhenian Sea in Southern Italy.  If you haven’t travelled to this beautiful location then I would highly recommend it!
